Preventing tooth decay and gum disease is always preferable to treating conditions after damage is done. A healthy smile can also improve your general health. Numerous medical conditions have symptoms that can be detected in the mouth. Diabetes, heart disease, nutritional/vitamin deficiencies or hormonal irregularities are some examples. In addition, gum disease is now linked as a contributing factor in at least six systemic diseases. Regular oral exams are important!
Professional fluoride treatments at each teeth cleaning appointment can help prevent decay at all stages of your life, it is not just for children! We can apply fluoride to your teeth in one of two ways:
*As a gel or foam in trays, (which is more pleasant)
*As a varnish, (which is more effective, but obnoxious)
Fluoride treatments are especially necessary if you are noticing a dry mouth from decreased salivary flow, a side effect of many medications. When saliva flow decreases, susceptibility to decay increases.
We can give you the tools and information that you need to keep your mouth healthy. We will work with you to customize a prevention plan to minimize oral disease.
